Scammers Pose as Farm Equipment Businesses to Sell Tractors That Never Arrive
The scam starts with an ad for a tractor at a good price, whether you find it while scrolling social media or searching for a business you have bought from before. When you reach out, the "business" sends a purchase agreement and invoice and asks you to wire thousands of dollars as a deposit or full payment, then schedules a delivery date.
The delivery never comes. It turns out there was never a legitimate business behind it, and the scammer stops answering or makes up another excuse, like a problem with the delivery truck. You are left without the money or the equipment.
What to look for
- A social media or search ad for equipment at a price that looks like a good deal
- A purchase agreement and invoice sent right after first contact, with no in-person inspection
- Requests to pay thousands of dollars by wire transfer as a "deposit" or full payment
- A scheduled delivery that keeps getting delayed with new excuses
What to do
Search the company name plus "scam" or "complaint" and scroll past paid ads to confirm the real business, and never send money by wire transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency, or payment app.
